Fixed Packet Writing und
Variable Packet Writing beim Beschreiben von
CD-R und
CD-RW. Beide Verfahren vermeiden, dass bei einem
Buffer-Underrun der zu beschreibende
CD-Rohling unbrauchbar wird. Dazu werden auf die CD kleine Blöcke mit fester (fixed) oder variabler (
variable)
Größe geschrieben. Zwischen diesen Blöcken existieren Systembereiche, die es dem
CD-Brenner ermöglichen, die Datenspur wieder zu finden. Wenn jetzt ein Buffer-Underrun
auftritt, schreibt
der Brenner einfach schnell eine
Markierung auf die CD und kann so das Ende der Datenspur wieder finden. Man kann also später weiterschreiben und der
Rohling ist nicht unbrauchbar. Das Incremental Packet Writing ist auch die Grundlage des
UDF.
